Beautiful guitar! Description of the actual guitar from GSI. (Purchased from GSI)
Angel Benito Aguado was born in Valdemorillo (Madrid, Spain) in 1949. At the early age of only 12 years old, he set about the task of building guitars in a self-taught manner. Although his father was the local priest, the family did have a woodworking shop where Angel was able to learn how to handle, prepare and sharpen the tools at their home at Villaviciosa de Odón (Madrid). After many years of building guitars he also took on repair work in his early 20s, which helped him gain insight into the various designs options found in the work of other makers. He also began building bandurrias and lutes but in the past several decades, settled exclusively on the construction of classical guitars of various models including replicas and models of his own design - including this one, which he calls his "Españoleta" model. This model is his traditional, Spanish-sounding guitar which has a rich, warm, dark mysterious quality of sound - the signature and very attractive sound of the older Spanish instruments built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The cedar top adds a smokiness to the sound and enhances the volume - in fact this guitar has excellent power for the player seeking a louder instrument. Playability is excellent - Angel himself is an amateur guitarist, and so has a clear understanding of the importance of making a guitar that is easy on the performer's hands. He has an impressive roster of professional players who have played his guitars including Pablo Sainz Villegas, Carlos Perez and Jose Luis Rodrigo, just to name a few.
The Españoleta is one of the top models to come out of the Ángel Benito Aguado workshop. Made entirely by hand by the master himself and inspired by the Madrid school of guitar building, the Españoleta model uses the low bridge of the Madrid school, and the traditional bracing. The Españoleta is extremely light for a high-end concert guitar. It is entirely French polished which translates into a rich, refined tone, and is wonderfully playable.
Born in Madrid, Spain, 1n 1949, Àngel Benito Aguado began learning fundamentals of wood working when he was a young boy. At age 12, he built his first guitar (though he admits it was a poor affair). However, by the time he was twenty-five, he had established himself as a professional guitar maker. He collaborated early in his making career with José Miguel Moreno and his wife Lourdes. Out of this early collaboration date came many of his early guitars. His guitars were and are known for their clarity and sensitivity and this carries over to his contemporary guitars. Guitar has been played very little, so their is normal wear, but not much at all.
