This is a great-sounding Flamenco Negra from one of southern Spain's top younger makers, Victor Quintanilla - who was awarded first-prize at the prestigious Antonio Marin Montero Guitar Making Competition held in Granada, Spain in October, 2019. The guitar is super raspy and punchy, really alive with a great driving energy and focus. Beautifully selected materials and an understated yet classy aesthetic give it a bold appearance, which matches its tone. Easy to play, super responsive. Not much more to say, this one truly is a "winner" all around!
Víctor Quintanilla's beginnings in lutherie date back to 2000 when he took his first carpentry course. In 2002, he entered the "Lutheria Malagueña School" with the luthier Maestro Chacón for two years. Later he set up his own workshop where he began to make his first handmade guitars, and remains doing so to this day. Over the years he has supplemented his experience with the collaborative friendship of others and cites Daniele Chiesa as a primary and strong influence - helping him to improve his work and have a deeper appreciation for all aspects of the construction process. Several top guitarists perform on his instruments, including Pedro Sierra and Rafael Aguirre.
