Description

This 1973 Miguel Rodriguez (also known as "La Wonderful") is one of the most iconic guitars in history. This is the instrument that since it was built, has been the main instrument and constant companion of Pepe Romero, who used it for an estimated 60 recordings, and for decades of use on the road in concerts in thousands of solo recitals, chamber concerts and performances with orchestra. It is arguably one of (if not "the") most professionally played instruments that the world has ever seen.

When speaking of "Miguel Rodriguez", one is really making reference to a family of four guitar builders spanning three generations. This guitar was built by Miguel Rodriguez Jr. and is an early example of a series of instruments he made that have become known as "Churchdoor" guitars, named for the specific cuts of rosewood that were used for the backs and sides that features a very dramatic and unique interplay with the more yellow-ish sapwood. These instruments are immediately identifiable by this feature alone and have become the top choice of collectors and performers as a result. Little needs to be said of the tone of this guitar which is as legendary as the instrument itself - again it can be heard on most recordings (still commercially available) from Pepe Romero. It is one of those few rarified instruments that in combination with its player has been so foundational in contributing to the wonderful history of the guitar in the 20th and 21st centuries.
