Description

This guitar was built in the famous Jose Ramirez III workshop, which for over half a century has produced instruments performed on by countless professionals from Sting to Segovia, Chet Atkins to Sabicas and Lee Ritenour to Christopher Parkening. The original owner of this guitar took it to the town of Linares (Andres Segovia’s hometown) in southern Spain where Segovia was visiting the home of his friend and biographer Alberto Lopez Poveda. In Poveda's home, Segovia met with a group of aficionados and fans, and even signed their guitars (as you can see from the photo above) including this 1979 Ramirez. We've only seen Segovia's signature on guitar soundboards a couple of other times - once on a 1967 Miguel Rodriguez we had many years ago, and more recently on the top of a 1930 Santos Hernandez. Apart from this amazing detail, the guitar itself is absolutely magnficent, as fine a 1a we've ever seen from the Jose Ramirez shop. It is incredibly easy to play, responsive and powerful and having that essential warm, mysterious and moody quality that made Ramirez famous. It is in great condition for its age - no cracks or repairs anywhere - apart from Segovia's signature, there is only very minor wear in the finish. Overall a top example of a great, classic Ramirez with added collectibility in carrying the Maestro's signature.
