Description

This instrument is a near-exact reproduction of an original second-epoch Torres from 1890 which for many years was in the private collection of Kenneth Brogger. Owning the guitar personally allowed Kenneth the opportunity to spend countless hours poring over every detail of the original in order to ensure that his replica would be as true to the original as possible. The dimensions, thicknesses of woods, proportions and aesthetic details of the original have been meticulously studied and reproduced. The resulting guitar is in our opinion the finest and most authentic Torres copy we have ever seen. It is astonishing just how close this is to the original, not just in weight (1 gram difference) and appearance, but also in sound - we know this first hand because we sold the original Torres in 2010 (see here for photos, description and videos) and were able to make several studied comparisons between the two. Kenneth's approach to engineering the tonal quality of the guitar was to imagine what the original sounded like when it was new in 1890 (not how it sounds now, 125 years later) and to mentally "reverse engineer" out the aged quality in an attempt to recapture the sound of it as Torres and his contemporaries would have heard it. Since making an instrument sound like an existing Torres is impossible (but has been attempted innumerable times by many top builders), Brogger has somehow captured the magic of the original using this different approach, and in fact the resulting sound of this "new" instrument is indeed very open, relaxed and "aged" sounding (very much like the original) in a way that perhaps could not have been achieved had he taken the standard approach. We congratulate Kenneth in this accomplishment and are proud to offer this new instrument for sale. He builds two versions of this guitar, one with pegs (like the original) and the other with machine heads.
