Segovia Collection (4CD)
AVAILABILITY: In Stock
The musical life of legendary Spanish guitarist Andres Segovia (1893-1987) is celebrated in The Segovia Collection, an historic 4-CD set of music recorded by the extraordinary guitarist.
Andres Segovia was largely responsible for the resurgence of interest in the guitar and its music in the 20th century. The Segovia Collection draws from the extensive catalog the Spanish guitarist recorded for American Decca in the 1950s and 1960s and focuses on two important areas in Segovia's repertoire: Spanish works, including many pieces dedicated to him, and works by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Segovia's collaborations with 20th century composers such as Manuel Ponce, Federico Torroba, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Federico Mompou are reflected in the discs on this set, as are his reverent performances of the works of early 19th century guitar masters Fernando Sor and Dionisio Aguado.
Four discs offer almost five hours of music, over one hour of which appears for the first time on CD, including the Cassado arrangement of the Boccherini cello concerto. All recordings have been newly remastered at 96 kHz/24 bit. The beautifully-packaged set includes a deluxe booklet with new essays and rare photos.
