John Ray is one of the best young luthiers working in Granada, Spain. Ray's guitars are very much in the "Granada" style - small-bodied, lightweight, easy to play and very responsive with many nuances and colors of sound. This classical model has a cedar top with Indian rosewood for the back and sides. The entire guitar is French polished. For a small bodied instrument, the guitar has suprising volume and a beautiful, lyrical tone. It has very quick response, much like a Marin or even a Miguel Rodriguez. The cedar also adds a great amount of warmth and darkness, as opposed to his brighter sounding spruce top version of the same guitar. Aesthetically, the guitar has an elegant simplicity which is very tasteful and refined - reminiscent of some of the most charming second epoch guitars of Torres.
