Santos Hernandez is quickly joining the ranks of Torres and Hauser I in terms of collectibility and historical importance. Santos has been known largely for the classical Manuel Ramirez guitar which he built in 1912 that was owned and played by Segovia. Many others have played his instruments, including Regino Sainz de la Maza (for whom the Concierto de Aranjuez was written) and several top flamenco players, most notably Sabicas and Geronimo Villarino. This particular guitar, built in 1933, is a gorgeous example of Santos at his best. Response of this guitar is instant, with a bright snappy attack, with great warmth and texture to the body of the tone. It’s a feather-light instrument, very powerful and a great example of an old world flamenco guitar at its most sublime.
