Description

Jose Oribe began making guitars in 1962, who along with the late Manuel Velazquez, makes him one of North America's veteran builders of the past 50 years. Oribe is famous for his fine materials as a quick glance at this instrument will attest. This model, his 'Gran Suprema' was introduced in 1987 to celebrate his 25th anniversary in guitar making. In the years since, it has been his flagship model and has been compared often to the finest Madrid-style instruments (Ramirez, Contreras, Bernabe, etc.) in its tonal and structural characteristics. The sides are doubled internally with a layer of mahogany, giving it a big, deep and rich tone with great volume, making this a particularly strong instrument for live performance. This particular guitar is a fine example of Oribe's best work and the condition is excellent with only very minor signs of playing wear. It was also recently re-fretted by GV Rubio so plays like a dream. From the collection of Stephen Paul, aka "Esteban".
