Description

Valerio Mongillo has been working as a luthier for over 30 years, building classical and flamenco guitars ever since the very early stages of his career. He attended the School of Research and Design in South Stratford, Vermont, under the direction of Charles Fox, as well as the Violin Craftsman Institute hosted by the University of New Hampshire from 1983-1993. Currently, Valerio is the owner of a violin shop called "Old Mill Violins" in Kennebunk, Maine where he builds and repairs stringed instruments as well as classical/flamenco guitars.

This flamenco guitar by Valerio Mongillo has a western red cedar top and cypress back and sides with curly koa bindings. The plantilla is based on Hernandez y Aguado. Valerio also added traditional style tap plates as respect to the past makers. The pegs are “pegheds” which is a mechanical peg which only looks like a traditional peg, but it’s very easy to tune. The finish is French polish, and the neck is cedar with the ebony fingerboard. To give this guitar an “antique” look, Valerio tried to simulate some repaired woodworm damage in some of the rib areas.
