Description

Sergei de Jonge has been building guitars since 1969. He apprenticed with Jean Larrivée (himself having studied with Edgar Mönch) in Toronto, Canada when he was building only classical guitars by himself, and also with Patt Lister. In addition to building guitars, Sergei has also taught guitar building courses, and some of his best students have been his own kids! Along with the influence of Mönch, Sergei has also been influenced by the work of American luthier John Gilbert - most notably in the bridge design with its thin, lightweight shape, resulting in a guitar with added punch, power and brilliance across the entire register. Other design features on this guitar are an elevated fingerboard, 20th fret, spalted maple rosette and a large soundport on the bass side. Materials are gorgeous including a very dramatic set of CSA rosewood with copious amounts of lighter colored sapwood for the back and sides, head veneer and bridge. Overall a great example by this highly respected maker.
