Anders Sterner was born in Sweden, where at a young age he began to study classical guitar, falling in love with the instrument and the music. At age 13 he relocated with his parents to the USA where he settled in Oregon, also attending the University of Oregon for his undergraduate degree. In 1998 by a lucky chance occurrence, he visited the workshop of Robert and Orville Milburn, where he was introduced to the art of lutherie. His passion for the craft grew so strong that in only two years, Anders took on guitar making as a full-time commitment. After focusing on construction methods and quality control, Anders transitioned to full time acoustic research and development in 2002. He currently builds a limited number of instruments per year, choosing to focus on exceptional voicing and build-quality rather than quantity. He builds two styles of classical guitar, one based on the work of Ignacio Fleta, and the other on Hermann Hauser I, which he has learned a great deal about from Jeffrey Elliott who has consulted Anders over many years with his deep insight and expertise. This instrument is an excellent example of the Hauser/Elliott model. Like Jeffrey Elliott, Anders incorporates many structural ideas from the tradition but the aesthetic details are all his. Headshape, rosette, etc are his designs and are tastefully done, executed with a high level of technical precision and a beautiful, personal artistry. The guitar plays and sounds fantastic - it has the great clarity and balance of Hauser and yet a plump, rich, thick tone at the same time. Although a second-hand guitar, it is in excellent condition with only very minimal wear. We are very impressed with this fine instrument, the first we have seen from this very talented maker.
