Guillermo Porras Salazar was born in 1974 in the province of Limón, Costa Rica, and grew up in a very musical family always surrounded by guitars. As a young man his interest in lutherie first led him into building Guitarróns and Mexican Vihuelas, which he did exclusively for several years. But in the late 1990s he had the opportunity to meet Juan Carlos Soto, a luthier recognized in Latin America for the construction of both traditional and modern guitars, and for over 3 years Guillermo was able to study the discipline under his tutelage, to better understand the various techniques of finishes and raw materials, history and restoration, and this all fueled his increasing passion to producing classical and flamenco Guitars.
This instrument features a system of lattice bracing that he has been using for the duration of his career as a guitar maker. It features a French polished Western red cedar top, with cedar braces on the interior, and lacquered Indian rosewood back and sides, with one sound port on the upper bout of the bass side. It also features a Smallman-like arm rest for greater comfort in resting the right arm on the guitar in the playing position. Being a lattice-braced top, the instrument has great power and a full, rich, natural tone which is produced with minimal effort from the player. Several notable concert artists have performed on these instruments, most notably Marco Tamayo and Anabel Montesinos.
