Description

In 2007, luthier Pepe Romero decided to complete 4 very special guitars with parts that he was given 10 years earlier from the great Miguel Rodriguez of Cordoba, Spain. Here we present one of these guitars - number 3 of 4, and it features a gorgeous 4-piece cedar soundboard that was thicknessed, braced and had the rosette inlayed by Miguel Rodriguez himself. The neck 'system' (neck, heel, headstock, etc.) was also from Miguel's hand. Pepe took these parts and assembled them into this guitar, supplying some of his own special rosewood for the back and sides that had figuring with sapwood features reminiscent of the "Churchdoor" Rodriguez instruments from the 1970s. This series of four "Rodriguez/Romero" guitars were featured in an article written for Soundboard magazine, published shortly after the guitars were completed. As would be expected from this design (and of course the materials), it has enormous volume and extremely quick response - likely assisted by its lightweight build for its size. It boasts a very easy, smooth neck and large, rounded frets. This is an incredibly special instrument in and of itself, but additionally comes with a fantastic back story. Although used, it is in excellent condition with only mild wear.Orfeo Magazine No. 10 - West Coast Luthiers
