Antonio de Torres article featured in Arts Review

News

The Arts Review publication is brought to us all by the Wilmette Arts Guild, and its aim is to “…inform, stimulate and inspire” as it does with all of its content. So, when GSI’s own President David Collett was asked to write a piece about the master-luthier and father of the modern classical guitar Antonio de Torres for Arts Review, he couldn’t resist to put his vast knowledge on the subject to work.

For the Summer/Fall 2018 edition of Arts Review, we get an eclectic collection of articles ranging from topics such as totem poles to tiles in the arts, and in between, David accounts for Torres’ life of productivity, including Torres’ upbringing, the value of his historical instruments, recording artists who have played Torres guitars (particularly at the GSI showroom), and a breakdown of the Torres epochs that make up his career as a guitar maker.

You can read the full article covering Torres’ life in summary below, and if you want to binge on all the latest news in the arts, be sure to read the full Summer/Fall 2018 publication also below.

Side NoteArts Review also included our story “Ancient wood finds new life with Edmund Blöchinger” from our blog in this publication, so that’s an interesting read that parallels the Antonio de Torres story. Torres built in past times, and his guitars are now “ancient” by some standards, and now Blöchinger occasionally builds with ancient wood in modern times.
