Description

Built by Dresden-based luthier Michael Haaser, this is a lute built for guitarists. Dubbed the "Lute for the 21st century", it features several modifications to "historically correct" lutes that normally prevent most guitarists from attempting to ever play a lute. This model features 8 courses of single strings (no double strings), fixed frets and a body shape that fits comfortably onto the classical guitarists lap. It is an "alto" lute so strings are to be tuned D – F – G – c – f – a - d‘ - g‘ with a'= 440Hz.

No adjustment to classical guitar technique is required to play this instrument, and due to the medium string tension they are equally amenable to both fingernail and fingertip plucking styles. A Liuto forte opens the door to guitarists wishing to expand their repertoire into the baroque and renaissance eras without having to transcribe or transpose bass lines due to the limited range of the traditional guitar. These pieces can be read directly from the original tablatures or from transcriptions into conventional scores. There is now no need to resort to massive, multi-stringed guitars, hard to hold and clumsy for many guitarists to play, and whose brightness in the deep basses leaves a lot to be desired. The instrument itself has a bright, beautiful and clear sound, capable of being used in any setting, either in solo or in ensemble.

As the name "Liuto forte" implies, it is a "loud lute" and can comfortably fill any sized concert venue. This is for the guitarist looking for that "lute sound" and range with which to perform repertoire largely inaccessible with a traditional guitar.
