Description

Based out of Yorkshire in the north of England, Peter Barton has been building professionally since the mid-1980's. His initial training was under the direction of Roger Rose in West Dean, Sussex, where he learned the traditional methods of early musical instrument construction including baroque lutes, guitars, viols, violins, cellos and basses. His classical guitars are based on Hauser and Romanillos models. They are not intended as exact copies but follow similar patterns of form and construction with the goal of producing an instrument with a clear balanced tone, good sustain and projection. The aesthetic touches are inspired by the guitars of Jose Romanillos, of which he is especially fond - this is most obvious in the mosaic pattern in the rosette. This particular guitar also features a beautiful 3-piece back, reminiscent more of Torres or Manuel Ramirez. Barton guitars have been played be several important concert players, including Vladislav Blaha from the Czech Republic and Russian composer/performer Nikita Koshkin.
