Description

This is an extremely well-preserved guitar built in the first decades of the twentieth century from the Casa Nunez shop in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The shop was founded in 1870 by the Spaniard Francisco Nunez, and remains open to the public to this day. Notable features of this guitar are the herringbone decoration in the outer purfling and rosette which looks nearly identical to that used by Martin in the 1920's, and the machine heads with clutch to allow faster mounting of the strings. It is in excellent condition, with only one repair to the top at the side of the fingerboard - only visible from an internal inspection. The top has 9 fan struts and the back has only two cross braces, reminiscent of the "Malaga" style of southern Spanish building that was contemporary with Torres. Sound is very old-world with deep basses and warm, lyrical trebles. A very charming guitar all around.
