Description

In 1973, at the age of 20, Philippe Jean-Mairet left his native Switzerland for Spain to learn about flamenco and classical guitars - with an interest both in playing and building. He would end up spending several years there and would learn from such makers as Francisco Manuel Diaz in Granada (who is also both a luthier and flamenco guitarist) and also with Manuel Bellido, where Philippe perfected his French polishing skills. Additionally. Philippe also had the privilege of taking master classes with Jose Romanillos in Cordoba. It was also during his time in Spain where he was able to study and draw out an Enrique Garcia guitar from the turn of the 19/20 century - an instrument that would greatly influence his style and taste in sound - indeed the asymmetrical 8-fan bracing patterns based on Garcia's work has been a central design feature of his own instruments, and he believes this system gives his guitars deep, warm basses and bright, clear trebles. Upon his return to Switzerland, Philippe studied guitar at the Conservatory in Bern, with a keen interest primarily in flamenco music, along with the classical repertoire. Numerous concerts (both flamenco and classical) with various groups followed in Switzerland and abroad. He also assembled the tools and materials to build his first guitar which was completed in 1975 and ultimately led to his decision to become a full-time professional guitar maker. Since then his guitars have been played by many notable professionals including Konrad Ragossnig, Vladimir Mikulka and YouTube sensation Danish guitarist Peo Kindgren. This is an excellent guitar all around - great character of sound with warmth, clarity and great projection. Easy to play, the guitar produces a rich sound with little effort from the player. Although second-hand, it is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs - only some very modest wear in the finish. Overall a solid concert and recording instrument that would satisfy the needs of any serious player - professional or enthusiast alike.
