Description

Daniel Lago Nunez was born in Pontevedra, Spain in 1890 and emigrated to Buenos Aires in 1911 where he studied guitar making with his uncle, Francisco Nunez. It appears from both interior and exterior examination that this builder was influenced by the early Barcelona school - most notably Enrique Garcia and Francisco Simplicio - the soundboard is braced with 8 asymmetrical fans, and detailing features include carved headstock with floral motif, as well as a Garcia/Simplicio-esque mosaic in the rosette, and rounded heel. It is in excellent, concert-ready condition, but has had a repair to the top and was refretted and fitted some time ago with a replacement set of tuning machines. Sound is very old-world with deep basses and crystal clear, singing trebles. A very charming guitar all around - so much so that this maker was held in high regard by none other than Domingo Prat who considered the guitars of Daniel Lago Nunez on par with the elite of Spanish builders.
