Randy Reynolds is an American luthier who has been building double-top instruments for the past 10 years. He builds a variety of models with the double-top system which at the same time pay hommage to a several historical builders including Santos, Hauser I and others.
This particular guitar is his "Grand Legacy" model, and includes a number of interesting features in its design. In addition to the double-top European spruce soundboard, this guitar features a dramatic Birdseye Maple neck (with graphite beam), as well as an elegant floral-patterned "soundport" layout carved into the side. Also included are custom Rodgers tuning machines with MOP buttons.
Playability is a breeze with a very easy neck shape for the left hand and a nice comfortable string tension for the right hand. Sound is loud and responsive, definitely modern, yet carries a balance and clarity more commonly found in traditionally design guitars. The maple adds a charming softness to the attack, as well as a roundness to the midrange. Overall, an excellent and very unique instrument.
