Stephen Grimes has been building guitars in Kula, Hawaii since 1982 where he has been producing a variety of instruments slowly and meticulously by hand, including unique and beautiful arch top and classical guitars, mandolins and ukuleles' for players like George Benson, Larry Coryell and Steve Miller to name but just a few.
The LC model was developed in collaboration with the great jazz guitarist Larry Coryell. He needed a flat top guitar that had a strong, clear midrange and high end response, without boominess in the bass. Furthermore, it had to have a loud, full acoustic tone, but still be capable of amplification with a piezoelectric pickup with better feedback control. Larry wanted to be able to perform on stage in a group with the guitar, and also be able to record with it in the studio. For this nylon-string version, it has a 7-fan system, as well as an elliptical soundhole which enhances the power of the mid and upper ranges of the tonal spectrum. This instrument is a custom-built "nylon" version of this guitar, made with master CSA rosewood for the back and sides, curly Koa binding, Palm tree inlay, and a few other modifications including abolone inlay in tie block and dots on the side of the fingerboard. Original price with Ameritage case was $9,000 so this will be a fantastic value for the next owner. This guitar was generously donated to our non-profit charitable organization, the GSI Foundation. Guitar sales through the GSI Foundation raise money to directly benefit music education in public schools. Feel free to contact us for more information.
