Description

David "Jose" Rubio is well known for his work with Julian Bream in the 1960s. This instrument was built during this very period while he was still in New York, before he returned to his native England. Materials on this instrument are exquisite most notably the dramatic grain patterns in the rosewood for the back and sides. Sound is very bold, with an even and balanced quality up and down the neck. At the same time, it has the beauty and lyricism for which he is best known. Condition-wise, the center seam on the top had opened at some point, and was re-glued from the exterior (there are no repairs internally) and then some finish work (to the top only) was done we believe at the same time. This instrument is both historic and very enjoyable to play.
