In 1988, while working as a carpenter in Paris, France, Jean Pierre Sardin's passion for music inspired him to construct his first guitar. He originally learned from the masters of the French archtop school: Pierre Anastasio, Jean Pierre Favino and Maurice Dupont but in 1995 decided to dedicate himself to the Spanish-style guitar, so he moved to Barcelona, Spain where he continues to build to this day.
Although Sardin claims that his primary influences are from the early Madrid school (Manuel Ramirez, Santos Hernandez, Domingo Esteso), the aesthetic of his instrument shows that he still has ties to his archtop roots. A few interesting design examples: in place of a mosaic, the central part of the rosette is fitted with Mediterranean bird's-eye bruyere. The center seam purfling running the length of the back has an overlapping hourglass shaped double curve. The headstock features inlaid bruyere and the bridge tapers towards the edges. The top is French polished and the back and sides are lacquered - a very practical combination for a guitar that will be heavily played. Playability is very easy, and the 640mm string length in no way compromises either the volume or tone, which are both very full. A very interesting instrument, bringing together elements of both the traditional Spanish school blended with the French archtop tradition.
