Sergio Abreu is one of the greatest classical guitarists to have emerged from Brazil in the late 1960s. Both as soloist and in duo with his brother Eduardo, he dazzled audiences not only with his virtuosic technique, but also with his subtle artistic interpretations. His highly acclaimed career as a performer came to a close in the early 1980's as he shifted his professional focus in the direction of guitar construction, and he is now arguably Brazil's finest in this craft. Much of his playing was done on a 1930 Hauser, the very instrument which Jose Romanillos used as the basis for three instruments built in 1973 (one for Sergio, one for his brother Eduardo and the other - for Julian Bream, a guitar which has become one of the most famous guitars in history). Not surprisingly, this Hauser has also been of primary influence in Sergio's work as well. This particular guitar displays beautifully the main elements found in Hauser guitars - great clarity and separation between notes, firm and steady basses, and brilliant/crisp trebles. It also has a noticeably elegant and smooth neck for easy playability. Being a well-played guitar for nearly 20 years, it has an open, relaxed overall sound, making it an ideal instrument for just about any musical setting.
