Description

Luthier Rod Capper is based out of Auckland, New Zealand. Although he builds in a variety of styles including Torres and Panormo, his primary influences seem to be more along the lines of Daniel Friederich mixed with Miguel Rodriguez - which is what is clearly heard and felt in this guitar we have on offer now. The tone is dark and thick yet each note is clearly separated from the next - therefore there is a good amount of body to the total sound with no muddiness. He uses natural materials and relies on primarily traditional building techniques with a few of his own innovative ideas that prevent energy loss especially through the neck. Among his building ideas, he uses a modified fan bracing with a Smallman type bridge, an extended fretboard (20 frets), and a compound-tapered fretboard (more taper on bass side than treble). The main woods used on this instrument are traditional (mahogany neck, Indian rosewood back and sides, Cedar top, ebony fingerboard, etc) but also features the use of some native woods (to New Zealand) such as Black Maire for the decorative headstock, bridge, and binding. Back and sides are finished with a thin coat of lacquer for durability, and the top is French polished. This guitar has been played quite a bit as is evidenced by the wear in the finish on the top, so it is very well played-in with a nice loose character to the sound. There is one repaired crack on the side in stable condition. This is an overall excellent value for the price.
