Built by French luthier Adrien Savary-Freestone, this guitar is made with European spruce for the soundboard, and a beautifully cut set of colorful CSA rosewood for the back and sides. This is THE actual award-winning classical guitar that Adrien showcased at the fifth Antonio Marin Montero Guitar Making Competition held in Granada, Spain in August, 2022 and we are extremely thrilled to have this guitar here. It is based on the work of Enrique García, who is one of Adrien's favorite guitar builders for several reasons: the aesthetics, the quality of the woodwork, a beautiful plantilla, and of course, a rich, warm and incredibly complex sound. Specifically, Adrien has based this guitar on a 1917 Enrique García that he was able to examine in person in Paris, from the collection of Catherine Marlat. Like the original, it has an assymetrical 8-fan system (just like Garcia and later, his disciple Simplicio) with an extra bar on the treble side. The decorative appointments are classic Garcia as well including half-herringbone purfling used on the top, back, sides and head veneer as well as a bold rosette design of contrasting darks (brown/black) against lighter maple with full herringbone bands around the central mosaic. In the spirit of an authentic Garcia, this guitar has a deep, charming old-world voice with rich basses and round, lyrical trebles. Due to the extra bar on the treble side, it has improved focus and clarity in the upper voices. The comfortable neck shape and easy action make this a very fun guitar to play. Although an old-fashioned charmer in tone, it satisfies the needs of any modern player with plenty of power and projection, enough for any concert situation. Overall, a beautifully made and very impressive award-winning guitar!
