1995 Hermann Hauser III SP/CSAR (ex Jonathan Kellerman)

Hermann Hauser III has tirelessly built guitars that capture the sound and aesthetic of the "teutonic" style, as initially established by his grandfather, Hermann Hauser I and transmitted through his father, Hermann Hauser II. Although it is one of the most iconic (and copied) styles since its inception, it should be no surprise that the style has been most faithfully preserved by Hermann III - indeed he works in the same workshop as his father and grandfather, uses many of the same tools, and even uses woods that were acquired by both his paternal predecessors.

This guitar was previously owned by award-winning author of numerous bestselling suspense novels, Jonathan Kellerman. It is featured in his beautiful coffee-table book on guitars, With Strings Attached.

This instrument features all the elements of the famous Hauser sound, known as the "teutonic" style which includes extreme clarity and balance between voices, even sustain in all registers, and of course incomparable beauty of tone. The sound of this style of instrument has been most famously immortalized by Julian Bream in countless recordings, as well as by numerous other major players. Workmanship and materials on this particular guitar are outstanding. As always, materials are first-rate, with a tight-grained, quarter-sawn spruce top and high-grade CSA rosewood for back and sides. Top is French polished, back and sides are in lacquer - a very practical combination for a guitar that will be played regularly. The design is essentially the same as Segovia's 1937 Hauser I instrument so this guitar has the same timeless characteristics that have mesmerized players and audiences for nearly a century. Condition is near-mint, almost "like-new" with no damage or repairs and almost no playing wear. A slightly smaller scale length improves playability marginally - particularly for players with smaller hands. Overall a fine example of this maker's strongest work.
