1963 Jose Ramirez "2aF MM" SP/CY

This is a fantastic example of an older concert flamenco from the workshop of Jose Ramirez III. It is lightweight and comfortable, with a dry and aggressive old-world flamenco sound. Stamped initials internally are MM (Miguel Malo), who worked for Ramirez from the late 1950's into the mid-1990's before setting up his own shop in Madrid. The gold-trimmed label indicates this as a "2a" model which is identical to the standard "1a" in every way - the Ramirez shop claimed back in the day that these were identified as such due to either using materials that may have minor aesthetic blemishes, such as small knots, or what in Spain are called "cocas" (darker areas of resin concentration in the grain), or if they were built by an apprentice and not a foreman. However, after many decades of discussion, many players and aficionados have concluded that a great 2a can be identical to a great 1a. This instrument in fact about as good as any Ramirez flamenco we've ever seen from this great period in their history. It is in great condition with no damage, cracks or repairs, and amazingly little playing wear. Playability and setup make this guitar concert-ready. It's a fantastic example of a vintage Ramirez blanca, it has that unique sound that has captivated players and listeners for over half a century now.
