Description

Although born in Sweden, luthier Tobias Berg has followed the craft of guitar making through Canada, England, and the US. He now lives and works in Germany as a full-time guitar builder. Berg has gathered plenty of experience for his young age, having worked 6 years at Lakewood guitars as well as taken numerous courses in classical guitar making. In 2004 he attained the German Master title after a successful examination. Meetings with notable luthiers like Robert Ruck and Jeffrey Elliot have been another source of inspiration to him, especially when it comes to quality of sound and their level of workmanship. This particular guitar is light in weight and is therefore very comfortable and fun to play. As well as being ultra-responsive, it has a beautiful, liquid quality to the tone, and is incredibly well-balanced. The cedar top provides a quality of sound rich in overtones supporting a very clear fundamental, across all registers. It also features striking materials, most notably a beautiful set of Pau ferro for the back and sides, with dramatic sap elements. The understated carvings and inlays make this a beautiful and charming instrument from this maker. Berg's guitars are quickly gaining recognition among performing classical guitarists, in fact Scott Tennant of the LAGQ recently purchased a Tobias Berg. Along with a bold and unique appearance, Berg's guitars are very impressive overall, and we are excited to be representing this very promising luthier here at GSI.
