Coming Soon: The Virtuoso Model by Francesco De Gregorio
A new guitar by Francesco De Gregorio is coming soon to GSI. This time, it's his Virtuoso model.
The idea behind it started simply: create more distance between the vibrating areas of the top and back to produce a clear, focused sound.
The sides are built from two layers of wenge veneer, glued along the grain. This construction gives the thin, lightweight maple sides added stability without compromising their resonant qualities. The soundboard bracing is inspired by Kohno's 1970s bracing pattern, scaled down to suit the Virtuoso's smaller body.
Francesco says this design results in a guitar with a fast response and long sustain—a combination that doesn't usually come so easily. Visually, the Virtuoso is elegant yet understated, featuring a simple circular rosette and black-and-white wood bindings, with nothing unnecessary to distract from the design. The real beauty lies in the mold, and in the way its shape complements the grain of the maple.
