First Look: Moonseok Choi's Latest Cedar-Top Guitar
Korean luthier Moonseok Choi has just completed another stunning guitar for GSI. With over 15 years of experience, Moonseok began his lutherie journey under Om Taechang in Seoul (2002–2005), later earning a Master’s degree in Musical Instrument Making from the Westsächsische Hochschule in Zwickau, Germany, where he lived from 2006 to 2010.
This latest instrument features a cedar soundboard paired with African rosewood back and sides, offering a warm, rich tone and striking visual contrast. Moonseok’s aesthetic is deeply influenced by nature and the sea. His time in Malmö, Sweden—near the Baltic coast—left a lasting impression, particularly the unique color of the sea. This inspiration is reflected in the rosette design, which features fish-like shapes and a subtle hint of blue.
Moonseok mainly builds traditional guitars and prefers classical designs. Check out some sneak peek photos below! GSI is pleased to be representing this fine maker exclusively in the USA.
