Justin Chen - Young Classical Guitar Talent Records at GSI

We've recently published five videos recorded by a new guest in our showroom - Justin Chen. A few days before his recording session, Justin visited our salon with his dad, Deon, and tested many guitars in our showroom to make informed decisions when it comes to matching guitars with particular compositions. We were impressed not only by his playing but also by the amount of good questions that he had about certain guitars.

A few days later, Justin recorded a great choice of repertoire for us that featured pieces that are usually performed by professional concerting artists due to their level of difficulty.

In the first video, you can hear Justin performing "Étude No. 11" by Heitor Villa-Lobos. The guitar featured in the video is a 1964 Daniel Friederich "Recital" SP/CSAR.

The second video is a recording of Isaac Albeniz's famous "Asturias (Leyenda)" from Suite Espanola Op. 47. Justin decided to record this video on a 2017 Ennio Giovanetti SP/CSAR.

Justin also recorded the first two movements, "El Arpa del Guerrero" and "La Huida De Los Amantes Por El Valle Los Ecos", from "El Decaméron Negro" by Cuban composer, Leo Brouwer. He recorded these pieces respectively on a 2020 Erez Perelman SP/CY and 2023 Manuel Adalid "Hauser" SP/IN.

In the final video, you can hear Justin's amazing tremolo technique! Here is his performance of Francisco Tárrega's "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" recorded on a 1916 Viuda de Manuel Ramirez “SH” w/pegs SP/CY (a very rare instrument built by Santos Hernandez).
