Mario Aracama Builds a New Cedar and Cocobolo Rosewood Classical Guitar for GSI
Luthier Mario Aracama is putting the finishing touches on a new classical guitar for GSI. Mario builds his instruments in his workshop in the beautiful Alpujarra mountains near Granada, Spain. He loves unique designs, and each guitar we have received from him features its own aesthetic details, while always being built using traditional Spanish construction methods.
For this new instrument, Mario reached for a very special set of cocobolo rosewood that he has kept in his workshop for decades. The back and sides are perfectly quartersawn, showing parallel figured lines and a subtle, centered streak of sapwood that gives the guitar a truly one of a kind look. The cocobolo is paired with a gorgeous cedar top full of silky grain.
Mario strung up the guitar before varnishing and was delighted with the result, describing its voice as very open. The guitar is now being French polished and is expected to be ready for shipping in November.
Check out the sneak peek photos below! We will share more pictures as the guitar nears completion. If you are interested in this new Mario Aracama cedar and cocobolo guitar, don't hesitate to reach out to us.
