2015 Michael Batell Spruce/Spruce Makassar Ebony

Michael Batell is an American luthier working out of Berlin, and this is his top-of-the-line concert model. From Michael's website: "Today in Berlin I construct around 15 instruments per year from my stock of very old solid timbers which I re-saw and season in my own shop. I still work according to traditional Spanish construction methods, but I also build guitars of double-top (sandwich) soundboard construction while preserving the essential tonality of solid tops. My guitars are characteristically Spanish in both appearance and sound, and possess appreciable volume, sustain, balance and clarity. At the same time, I focus attention on maximum separation and definition of tone, so that individual musical voice lines and harmonies can be easily expressed by the musician and discerned by the listener." This instrument is a 2015 double-top, Spruce/Spruce over Macassar Ebony, with a 53mm nut, 650mm scale, ebony fingerboard, compensated saddle, French polish, and an arm rest. It is a powerful guitar, with very deep bass and sweet, natural sounding trebles.
