New Video: Alan Mearns Performs Manuel de Falla’s "Serenata" + New Album Lorca Arriving This Week!
We are thrilled to share a new video performance by Alan Mearns, who recently sent us a recording of his latest arrangement: Manuel de Falla’s lesser-known work, "Serenata."
A Tribute to Lorca
This performance is more than just a new arrangement; it is an extension of Alan’s deeply personal project, his upcoming album "Lorca." The album was conceived as a "metaphysical bouquet" to be left at the tomb of Federico García Lorca, the legendary Andalusian poet and victim of the Franco regime. Lorca’s connection to the guitar was profound, and his relationship with Manuel de Falla was one of mentor and student. It is said that upon hearing of Lorca’s execution, de Falla wept openly in the streets of Granada.
In honor of the poet, Alan wrote this poem:
The way they murdered you
my dear Lorca...
I will reimagine your death
I will tell the children of the village
how your musical verse
finally plucked the right chord,
breaking the power
of the witch's curse,
And, how, like Pinocchio in reverse
you turned back into a guitar

About Alan Mearns
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Alan’s musical journey began with the classical violin at age five before he found his true voice in the guitar at age ten. Now based in the United States, Alan has become a force in the guitar world, with his recent Bach recording debuting at No. 8 on the Billboard Classical Music Chart.
His career is a fascinating blend of disciplines. Whether he is performing at Yale and the Royal Irish Academy of Music or releasing alternative-folk music under the pseudonym Yes The Raven, Alan brings a unique poetic sensibility to everything he touches. A published poet himself, he is as likely to be found reading at the Seamus Heaney Centre as he is being featured by YouTube’s Rick Beato.
