13-Year-Old Guitarist, Catherine Huo, Records at GSI
We’re pleased to share three new videos recorded at GSI by the exceptionally talented 13-year-old guitarist, Catherine Huo. She studies with Alan Liu—who was also recently featured on our channel—and has already won prizes at prestigious competitions, including Second Prize at the GFA International Youth Competition (Junior Division) and First Prize at the Northwest Guitar Festival Artist Competition.
“Canción De La Hilandera” by Agustín Barrios
Performed on a 1966 Arcangel Fernández SP/CSAR
In this video, Catherine delivers a beautifully expressive rendition of Barrios’ Canción De La Hilandera. Her tremolo is effortless and very even. The video also offers a special visual touch—we recorded Catherine's ballet dancing and included it in the b-roll.
“Clown Down” by Roland Dyens
Performed on a 1996 Manuel Reyes “Classical” CD/CSAR
Catherine’s second video highlights her dynamic energy and rhythmic precision in Dyens’ "Clown Down". To match the music, we added a more dynamic camera work.
“Suite in G Minor, BWV 995: Prelude – Très Vite” by J. S. Bach
Performed on a 2025 Marc Dickinson “Cosmic” SP/IN
The final video presents Catherine’s interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s "Prelude – Très Vite" from the Suite in G Minor, BWV 995. Her phrasing and clarity reveal a deep musical sensitivity beyond her years.
We look forward to seeing more from Catherine in the future! She has a bright future ahead of her as a guitarist.
