Coming Soon: A New Fernando Moreno Guitar in Spruce and Birdseye Maple
Spanish luthier Fernando Moreno has sent us a first look at his newest guitar built for GSI, and we couldn’t wait to share it. This instrument pairs a spruce soundboard with a striking set of birdseye maple for the back and sides.
Fernando lives and works in Alcalá de Guadaíra, a small town just outside Seville in the heart of Andalucía. His path as a builder began in Granada, where Antonio Ariza encouraged him to make his own instruments after seeing the quality of his work in the shop of Valeriano Bernal. He went on to refine every stage of construction in the family workshop of Francisco Manuel Díaz, from cutting the woods to the final shellac finish. Today Fernando builds exclusively for GSI, guided by the feedback of the players who visit his workshop and a continuous study of acoustics.
Birdseye maple is one of the most visually captivating tonewoods a luthier can choose, and its density and reflective quality tend to give a guitar clarity and focus. Combined with spruce and Fernando’s hallmark clean, lively sound, this promises to be a responsive and articulate instrument.
