Pre-Order Today – New Book on Robert Bouchet by Alberto Martinez Coming Soon to GSI
Alberto Martinez’s newest book, dedicated to the life and work of French luthier Robert Bouchet (1898–1986), will soon be available at GSI.
Bouchet, who began as a painter, turned to guitar making in 1946 and quickly gained renown for his beautifully balanced instruments. His innovations, including the famous “barre d’âme”, left a lasting mark on lutherie, with players such as Ida Presti, Alexandre Lagoya, and Julian Bream performing on his guitars. In total, he built just 154 instruments, all highly valued today.
This 216-page bilingual (French/English) volume provides the most complete look at Bouchet’s life and work to date, with chapters on his workshop logbook, techniques, influences, and successors. It also includes Karel Dedain’s detailed plan of Ida Presti’s 1958 Bouchet (no. 63) and is richly illustrated throughout.
We expect copies to arrive very soon, and due to high demand we are now accepting pre-orders. Books will be available late September/early October 2025 and will be shipped immediately. Don’t miss the chance to add this important reference to your library. A few sneak peek photos can be found in the gallery below.
