Cristina Galietto Records at GSI
Cristina Galietto visited GSI and recorded five videos. Cristina has given entire solo recitals, quartet concerts and solo concerts with orchestras in most European countries and in the USA. She has learned the guitar with her father Alberto. Upon realizing her early talent, she started soon participating and winning guitar contests in Italy and in the rest of Europe. Cristina has two Master degrees in classical guitar and is concluding her third one at the Kunst Universität in Graz (KUG) in the classes of Paolo Pegoraro and Lukasz Kuropaczewski.
While at GSI, Cristina recorded two movements from “Cavatine” by Alexandre Tansman: “Preludio” and “Danza Pomposa”. Cavatina, composed in 1950, is one of Tansman’s most celebrated works for guitar. It is a suite of four short movements, originally written for Andrés Segovia. This collaboration resulted in a composition that showcases both technical brilliance and profound expressivity. The piece reflects Tansman’s deep understanding of the guitar's unique tonal and dynamic capabilities. Cristina recorded this video on a 2023 German Vazquez Rubio "Solista" classical guitar.
One of the most iconic works in the classical guitar repertoire, Recuerdos de la Alhambra was composed in 1896 by the Spanish guitarist and composer Francisco Tárrega. He is often referred to as the "father of modern classical guitar" due to his contributions to technique, repertoire, and pedagogy.
This piece pays homage to the Alhambra, the magnificent Moorish palace and fortress in Granada, Spain. The Alhambra is renowned for its intricate architecture, tranquil gardens, and evocative atmosphere, which Tárrega sought to capture through music. Cristina recorded this piece on a 1990 Matthias Dammann classical guitar made with spruce top and CSA rosewood back and sides.
While not as famous as some of his larger works, “El Columpio” is an example of Tárrega’s ability to create a vivid and evocative musical scene in a short format. It demonstrates his gift for blending technical brilliance with emotional expressiveness, making it a beloved piece among guitarists and an audience favorite for its charm and warmth. Cristina recorded this piece on a 2023 Francisco Jimenez classical guitar made with cedar top and Indian rosewood back and sides.
“Romanza” is one of Paganini’s enchanting works for guitar, showcasing his ability to write music of lyrical beauty and emotional depth. It provides a striking contrast to his more technically demanding and fiery compositions for violin, reflecting his Romantic sensibilities and melodic inventiveness. Cristina recorded this piece on a 2012 Bernd Martin classical guitar made with spruce top and CSA rosewood back and sides.
