Duo Chinoiserie - Hear the Sound of a Traditional Chinese Instrument, the Guzheng, in a Duet With the Classical Guitar!
Yesterday, the Omni Foundation for the Performing Arts published a new video recorded on location. This time, the video was shot in the 18th-century Mission San Xavier del Bac in Tucson, Arizona.
In the video, you can hear Duo Chinoiserie (Bin Hu and Jing Xia) performing together Sérgio Assad's "Mulan" (dedicated to the Duo Chinoiserie) and Manuel de Falla's "Danza del Fuego" (arr. Duo Chinoiserie). This duet is a unique combination of a traditional Chinese instrument, the guzheng, and the classical guitar. The guzheng is a type of plucked zither tuned in a major pentatonic scale. The name literally translates to "Ancient Zheng".
In addition to their duo repertoire, the video also features Bin Hu performing Agustín Barrios Mangoré's "La Catedral" and Jin Xia playing "A Moonlit Night on the Spring River" on a guzheng solo.
