GSI Foundation Donates Guitars to Support Young Musicians
Last Wednesday, the GSI Foundation had the pleasure of welcoming José Antonio “Pepe” Pérez, along with one of his top students Natalia Diaz, her mother, and Mark Achuff from the American Guitar Society (AGS), to Guitar Salon International for a special visit. They stopped by in person to pick up four student-level guitars that were donated the GSI Foundation and are now being passed along to help support students in Pepe’s music program.
Pepe is the Director of Strings and Guitar Studies at the Kadima Conservatory of Music in Sherman Oaks, and the founder of Just Play Music (JP Music)—a private school dedicated to offering formal guitar training and ensemble opportunities to young musicians from underprivileged communities. His work with the JP Music Guitar Ensemble and String Orchestra provides students access to classical music education and free public concerts.
This donation was made in response to a request from the American Guitar Society, which brought attention to the fact that many of Pepe’s students have had to borrow instruments to participate in lessons and performances. With these new guitars, four students—including Natalia, can deepen their connection to music and continue their studies with the tools they need.
Support us in our mission
The work of the GSI Foundation is made possible only through the generous support of individuals who have contributed over the years. If you’d like to join in helping future musicians, here’s how:
Donate a Guitar
Many people have guitars at home that are no longer in use. The GSI Foundation provides an easy way to give these instruments a second life—supporting music education and raising funds for our programs. If you have a guitar you’d like to donate, we’ll help you pack and ship it and cover all expenses. You’ll also receive a tax-deductible donation letter.
