Brazilian Guitar Master Guinga Returns to Los Angeles with Anna Paes

One of Brazil's most revered composers and guitarists, Guinga, returns to Los Angeles on Thursday, August 13, 2026, for a rare and intimate performance with acclaimed vocalist Anna Paes at 2220 Arts + Archives.
For over five decades, Guinga has redefined the language of Brazilian popular song, blending samba, choro, bossa nova, classical music, and jazz into a harmonic style all his own. His compositions have been recorded by legends including Elis Regina, Chico Buarque, Ivan Lins, Mônica Salmaso, Michel Legrand, Hamilton de Holanda, Esperanza Spalding, and Sérgio Mendes, and his work has earned multiple Prêmio da Música Brasileira awards and a Latin Grammy nomination for Rasgando Seda.
Joining him is Anna Paes — singer, songwriter, guitarist, researcher, and one of Brazil's foremost interpreters of Guinga's repertoire. Performing together since 2013, the duo has built an extraordinary musical dialogue rooted in precision, sensitivity, and deep artistic trust. The concert will draw from their celebrated recordings Você Você – Anna Paes canta Guinga and Julieta no Convés, offering an intimate showcase of the richness and emotional depth of contemporary Brazilian music.
Guinga is no stranger to GSI. He has visited us in the past, and even recorded a video with Anna Paes right here, along with a few solo performances. Take a look:
