Cody Noriega’s Commentary on Segovia
Rising classical guitar social media influencer, Cody Noriega, released an interesting video where he reacted and commented on a couple iconic Segovia videos. In his video titled "Nobody Plays Like This - Classical Guitarist Reacts to Andrés Segovia," Cody offers an in-depth reaction to an interview as well as a performance by the legendary Andrés Segovia. Cody analyzes Segovia's unique playing style, technique, and musical expression, highlighting what sets Segovia apart in the realm of classical guitar. Cody also provides insights into Segovia's influence on the classical guitar world and discusses how his approach to the instrument has inspired generations of musicians. The video serves as both an homage to Segovia's artistry and an educational piece for those interested in classical guitar.
Aside from his growing social media presence, Cody earned his Master’s Degree in Music Performance from California State University, Fullerton, where he studied under the esteemed guitarist and composer Andrew York. He recently won first place at the Pacific Guitar Festival Competition. Prior to that, Cody graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in Music, studying with the world-renowned classical guitarist Christopher Parkening. In 2019, he was one of only fifteen competitors worldwide selected to participate in the prestigious Parkening International Guitar Competition, regarded as the premier classical guitar competition globally.
Currently, Cody is an adjunct professor of guitar at Riverside City College and California Baptist University. He also teaches beginner and intermediate guitar ensemble classes with Inland Empire Musical Arts and offers private lessons. In the summer of 2017, he joined the Pepperdine Heidelberg Music Summer Program, performing chamber music throughout Germany and Austria.
Cody is a two-time winner of the President’s Honor Recital at Riverside City College and, in 2013, toured internationally with the Empyre Chamber Ensemble in Mexico City.
