Juri Yun Records Four New Videos for GSI, Including Duets with Violinist Yiran Yao
We are excited to share a new set of videos recorded at GSI by guitarist Juri Yun, who currently serves as our Guitar Demo Artist and Concert Creator. Juri is also one of guitar instructors who give private one-on-one lessons on GSI's newest platform, TeacherNet. A Canadian guitarist and doctoral candidate at USC Thornton School of Music, Juri has performed widely across North America and Europe, debuting at Carnegie Hall in 2019 as a competition laureate. He teaches at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music and is a teaching artist for Lead Guitar, which partners with the GSI Foundation. Over the years, Juri has studied with world-renown teachers including David Russell, Marc Teicholz, and Pepe Romero.
In his most recent session at GSI, Juri recorded four new videos—two solo works and two duets with violinist Yiran Yao, who joins him as part of the ensemble LA Duo.
Domenico Scarlatti – Sonata in A Major, K. 208
Juri opens this set of videos with Scarlatti’s Sonata in A Major, K. 208. This particular guitar version was arranged by Leo Brouwer. For this performance, Juri chose a 2025 Otto Vowinkel SP/CO guitar. This instrument has balance and warmth ideally suited to Scarlatti’s music.
David Kellner – Phantasia in D Major
The second solo video features Juri performing Hubert Käppel’s arrangement of David Kellner’s Phantasia in D Major. Kellner (1670-1748) was a German composer of the Baroque period. You might be familiar with the opening of this piece since Juri often records it as a sound sample on various guitars from our stock. For this video, Juri chose a 2025 Miguel Ángel Gutiérrez “Limited Edition – REG 2025” CD/PD guitar.
Astor Piazzolla – Oblivion
In duet videos, Juri performs with violinist Yiran Yao in Piazzolla’s Oblivion arranged for guitar and violin by Giacomo Scaramuzza. This performance was recorded on a 2024 Wolfgang Jellinghaus “Signature SP/SP 640” SP/GR guitar.
John Williams – Schindler’s List Theme
The second duet with Yiran Yao features Juri’s own arrangement of John Williams’ iconic Schindler’s List Theme. The emotional dialogue between guitar and violin brings a new perspective to this well-known score. To match the videography of this famous movie, we edited this video in black and white and used different audio mastering techniques to better reflect emotions carried by this soundtrack. Juri performed the piece on a 2000 Hermann Hauser III SP/CSAR.
