Kamagong Back & Sides in Mario Aracama's Newest Guitar Built For GSI!
Mario Aracama is close to finishing his newest guitar for us. It's going to be his second guitar made for us with Kamagong wood back and sides. The first guitar was featured at GSI back in 2019, and we were very happy with the result! Mario sourced this fantastic wood from the Philippines. Its appearance is almost like a hybrid between CSA rosewood and Makassar ebony with its strong striped features fused with lighter sapwood highlights. Soundwise, Mario describes this wood as giving a bit of extra power due to its higher density, as well as a "velvety" character to the sound. Mario doubled the sides on the inside with a 1 mm thin cypress. As for the other materials, Mario used cedar for the top, and Alessi "Hauser Style" tuners.
The guitar is nearly finished and we expect it to be shipped in January. Check out the photos below!
