Kris Barnett Builds A New Guitar Featuring A Bracing Pattern Based On The Golden Ratio.

News

We've received several gorgeous sneak peek photos of our newest guitar from Kris Barnett - a Berlin-based guitar builder and one of the members of "Berlin Luthiers" - a small collective of guitar makers living in Berlin established to stimulate mutual inspiration and genuine exchange experiences about guitar making.

Kris Barnett grew up in the United States and his story is very unique. He began building guitars in 2004 as a hobby while working full-time as a mental health therapist. Initially, he converted his own bedroom into a workshop and within two years started receiving enough commissions to work full-time as a guitar maker. Currently, he lives in Berlin with his wife.

His self-directed approach has allowed him to build unique guitars like the ones he creates today. He started building traditional Torres-style instruments and later started working with lattice, double top, and numerous other designs of his own making. Nowadays, his instruments borrow from modern and traditional guitar construction concepts.

Our new instrument features Kris's new rosette design and a very interesting bracing pattern which is based on the golden ratio of the Fibonacci sequence. The lengths and spacing between the braces, as well as the frequencies of the back and soundboard, are related to this sequence.
