Sneak Peek: A New Guitar by Kris Barnett for GSI

Coming Soon

We’re excited to share a first look at our newest guitar being built by Berlin-based luthier Kris Barnett. Kris, a member of "Berlin Luthiers," is part of a small but vibrant collective of guitar makers in Berlin dedicated to fostering collaboration and creative exchange. His guitars combine both traditional and modern approaches to guitar construction.

Kris’s journey as a luthier began in the United States in 2004 when he transformed his own bedroom into a workshop, working around his full-time job as a mental health therapist. His passion for guitar-making quickly grew, allowing him to transition into building instruments full-time just two years later. Now based in Berlin, Kris’s work is inspired by his unique background and self-taught approach, which gives each of his guitars a distinct identity.

Kris's new guitar features some of his recent design developments, including a fresh rosette pattern and a carefully calculated bracing system. This bracing pattern is particularly interesting, as it follows the golden ratio of the Fibonacci sequence. Kris uses this sequence to determine the lengths and spacing between the braces, as well as to tune the frequencies of the back and soundboard.

The guitar is already finished and Kris recorded a beautiful video showcasing his newest GSI guitar. Check it out below!

Additionally, Kris has shared two insightful videos on his rosette construction and bracing techniques. Although the guitar featured in these two particular videos below differs slightly from the instrument we’ll be receiving, they offer a fascinating look at his meticulous craftsmanship. We also have sneak peek photos documenting the construction process!

If you like this guitar, don't hesitate to reach out to us with questions!
