Marco Bortolozzo Next Guitar Is Coming Soon To GSI!
Italian luthier Marco Bortolozzo was recently featured in our on-location with D'Addario video series, where we showcased his newest model developed from the plans of Andrés Segovia's iconic 1937 Hermann Hauser guitar. The guitar featured in the video sold almost immediately, and following its success, Marco has already completed another, similar instrument for us.
This guitar features excellent materials! The top is made of thick, "torrefied" spruce, which gives it a darker color, and is thicknessed with a variable pattern. The back and sides are made of an elegant set of ziricote. Structurally, Marco aimed to lower the guitar's resonance pitch by adjusting its overall weight and adding a low-depth tornavoz. The guitar also includes a hidden adjustable titanium rod inside the neck for stability.
The aesthetic details of this guitar are distinctively Marco's, although one can see inspiration in the rosette design from one of Vicente Arias's more spectacular rosettes, featuring interlocking circles - meticulously and perfectly executed. There is also a heel cap ornament inspired by Richard Reynoso's guitars. Many of Marco's aesthetic ideas are deeply connected to his background in industrial design. The hard, "modern" edges and angles of the inlays and shapes of the guitar (look at the headstock, for example) are fused with traditional elements drawn from the architectural wonders of Milan, one of the great design capitals of the world.
Check out some sneak peek photos of the finished guitar. You'll also find a short video from Marco, recorded for D'Addario, in which he discusses his previous example of the same model.
