Music Education During the COVID-19 School Shutdown

News

As many of you know, most schools around the world are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These difficult circumstances are forcing schools to adapt very quickly. Fortunately, many of them started providing online lessons so that students won’t be left without access to education. For those of you who are wondering what’s happening to music education these days – most of the teaching is done online.

Today, we’ve received a message from the Children’s Music Workshop – one of the music education programs supported by the GSI Foundation. They have fully adapted to online teaching. Miss Marin and Miss Lyn are giving weekly online lessons to kids from Brockton Avenue Elementary and Castle Heights Elementary. These lessons include ukulele instruction, general music education and appearances from guests artists who educate and entertain the students. The honor orchestra members also participate in these lessons. Teachers have adapted very quickly. Even though the lessons are held online, students are still involved in activities such as singing, clapping and moving.

We hope that we’ll all manage to safely overcome this global health crisis soon.
